About Sherpa Labs
We build the RL environments and training data that frontier AI labs use to make their models better at real work. We’re a small team in San Francisco, backed by Y Combinator and angels from OpenAI, Google, Meta and Cognition.

About the role
You’ll find and secure the data our datasets are built on. You’ll work out which data will matter most for frontier models, track down the people who own it, negotiate the deals and make sure everything we acquire is cleared for training.
What you’ll do
- Decide which data to go after, working with our research and project teams on what will make the biggest difference.
- Find data owners, from companies to independent sellers, and build lasting relationships with them.
- Negotiate and close data deals, from the first conversation to the signed agreement.
- Work with legal to make sure every source is properly licensed and cleared for training.
- Check that what we acquire matches what we were promised, and get it into a shape our teams can use.
- Own the data acquisition budget and pipeline.
What we look for
- 2+ years in partnerships, business development, corporate development or data licensing.
- You’ve negotiated and closed real deals, and you enjoy it.
- You understand data rights and licensing, or can learn them quickly.
- You move fast and are comfortable with ambiguity.
- Low ego: you want direct feedback and act on it fast.
